About AMC

AMC is owned by the Grain House Trust, a registered charity set up to reflect God’s love through a variety of community services and activities for all age and social groups.

Cafe Rafters and the room hire/conferencing businesses are operated by Alton Maltings Centre Community Interest Company, a subsidiary of The Grain House Trust.

AMCCIC is a Community Interest Company.  It's object is to carry on activities which benefit the community and in particular (without limitation) to provide facilities that meet the existing and future needs of the Market Town of Alton, Hampshire and the surrounding villages, and to apply any surpluses or profits to further the charitable objects of the parent charity, The Grain House Trust (Charity No: 1096632) by giving any such surplus or profit to the charity.

The Alton Maltings Centre is a grade 2 listed building once used in the beer-making process. It was built in around 1850 and ceased to be used as a maltings in about 1970, when it was converted to warehouse and office use. It finally became derelict in the early 1990s and was purchased in 1997 with a view to being converted into a centre for community and church use.

A £3.5 million pound renovation project began in January 2004 and was finally completed in October 2005, when Alton Maltings Centre was formally opened to the public.

AMC is home to Harvest Church, Cafe Rafters. It is available for hire by local businesses and the community.
